Who we’re looking for

Toyota’s Stamping Production Engineering Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Senior Engineering Manager for our Die Development Engineering Group.

The primary responsibility of this role is to drive our organization forward through solid processes and innovation to establish North American built dies as the global best in quality, lead time, and cost.

Reporting to the Stamping Group Manager, the person in this role will support Die Development Engineering department's objective to position TMNA as a global leader in Stamping Die making.

What you’ll be doing

  • Manage Stamping Engineering’s new model project Planning & Digital preparation teams. Including Die Design, Die Face Design, Simultaneous Engineering, Advanced Planning & Production control support teams.

  • Manage / coach / develop team and members outside of team in all aspects of the Toyota Way (manpower planning, project management reporting, presenting, hoshin, daily management, etc).

  • Lead planning, digital development, budget creation and production control teams for all North American procured stamping dies for Toyota new model projects. Planning includes resource, overall schedule, gated milestone and enterprise system inputs and maintenance. Digital development includes the management of Simultaneous Engineering studies with vehicle desing functions, Die Face development using CAD, Die Design development using CAD. Production control functions include the procurement and management of the manufacturing process for the stamping dies.

  • Lead the implementation and kaizen of enterprise systems to improve, track and support countermeasure of the die manufacturing process at TMMK. Incorporate live feedback to modify and steer decisions on a daily basis for bettering our manufacturing efficiency. Support the development of automated systems to support head count efficiency and schedule compression efforts in the areas of design.

  • Identifies opportunities for broad NA wide equipment strategies in order to reduce equipment variation, incorporating repeat strategy where possible for efficiency of work both at TEMA PE and NAMC. Also leads reflection activities to ensure continuous improvement at each cycle of implementation.

  • Position is critical to ensure manufacturing operations achieve all manufacturing requirements and meet required TSS for new tooling introduction within the new model launch timeline.

  • Coordinates all Stamping CapEx budgets including spending consensus between NAMCs and TEMA PE. Budget coordination and approval for new tooling and equipment in the ten's of millions of dollars.

  • Manager responsible for staffing strategy, TM hiring/firing, and TM development and training to achieve project goals (40 members, 5 direct reports).

  • Decision making for vendor selection and leading the sourcing discussion between PE Stamping and TMC PE. Challenge schedule and budget through sourcing of equipment and tooling between NA, JPN and other regions without comprimising quality KPI’s.

  • Participation and leadership in group wide organizational design improvements with the emphasis on efficient manpower utilization and TM development of both job role skills and Toyota way understanding.

  • Directly responsible for career development for manager level report to’s as well as responsible for maintaining, visualizing, and regularly reporting on manager and team member level skills mapping and training plan execution.

What you bring

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Engineering

  • Toyota Management experience in an engineering role, with responsibility for direct reports

  • Toyota New Model project leadership experience, including responsibility for Toyota specific equipment and manufacturing processes for dies and new model launch budget and schedule development

  • Experience with Stamping Simultaneous Engineering & Die Face Design, including reading and interpreting computer aided engineering data for formability, accuracy, and surface quality simulations to approve die process plans and die face designs

  • Experience building Toyota dies with the use of Proleis software, including an understanding of raw material grade and capability to support stamping die development

  • Die Design understanding, including structural requirements and Toyota SMS standards in order to approve designs to be released to a 3rd party pattern shop to create raw castings for Toyota’s manufacturing process

  • Experience creating and coordinating Capex yearly budget

  • TBP Completion through panel

  • JKK Completion

  • Able to work overtime, weekends, and shutdowns, including travel up to 25%, both domestic and international

Added bonus if you have

  • Stamping die process creation experience

  • Experience in 3D CAD such as CATIA, XVL, Polyworks, etc.

  • Experience analyzing data from contact and non-contact measurement systems

  • Formal leadership responsibility, beyond your daily role (internally or externally) for a team including cross functional, special task force, Board Member of BPG/External council or other within the last 2 years
